When I was younger, I used to believe that the number one reason marriages (and other romantic relationships) fail is because couple just fall out of love. Yes, that can be one of the reasons, but as I grew older, I began to realize more and more, much to my dismay, that the No. 1 reason marriages fail is FINANCIAL PROBLEMS. What!?
I know. I used to think, “How can people be so materialistic!” or “How can they let money ruin their happily ever after!” But like I said, as much as I hated to accept it, those years in public service dumped this ugly reality right in front of my face — financial issues are the No. 1 cause of divorce.
In the last seven years that I worked as Career Advocate at a public secondary school in the countryside, majority of the students referred to my office came from either broken homes or dysfunctional families, and when you take the time to really look into their circumstances you will find that one or both of their parents had to leave in search for ways to bring food to the table. Some left for very long periods of time, others left for good.
What shocked me most was the fact that this can happen not only to couples who are having trouble earning money to buy food for their children but to the rich as well! How? It could be one or both spouses’ unhealthy spending habits, inability to maintain an open communication about money or one of the partners may discover that they don’t like the way the other handles their family finances.
This, along with a few other reasons, is what pushed me to take my finances seriously. No, my ever-loving husband and I have not yet come to that unfortunate point, thank God, but if I have to admit that the way I handle my personal finance today we might end up going in that direction.
Now I’m not really a very religious person, but deep in my heart I know God does not want me to go that way either. He said it so Himself, He wants me — and YOU — to have life, and have it to the full!
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
(John 10:10 NIV)
I’m not sure if the Law of Attraction has worked for you or if you have even heard of it, but the moment I decided to take the first step to fix my finances it was like the Universe delivered all sorts of references to my doorstep to help in my new quest. And not just any reference! World-class, time-tested effective to deliver real results if followed correctly.
If followed correctly.
And I am determined to follow them correctly (yeah, most of time some positive self-talk goes a really long way).
If you are like me who’s determined to embark on a journey toward financial freedom and challenge the statistic that says financial issues are the No. 1 cause of divorce, there is hope even if you never learned to strengthen your financial muscles at home or in school. I was never taught financial management at home, and I never learned in school. I hated numbers, that’s why I took up Psychology.
But like I said, the Universe is good and it only wishes for us to receive what we wish for. I wished for financial mentors and in case you have not met one yet, you might be interested in meeting mine. I will tell you more about them in another post, but for now you may access this link to see how you can get the best support system so you can begin your journey toward authentic financial freedom today.
