One great thing I love about weekends is that you get to do a lot of things not related to work and what can be more exciting than a long weekend?
Today is a National Holiday in the Philippines, as we join the rest of the Christian Community in celebrating All Saints’ Day. Working folks in the city, I imagine, spent their weekend in beaches or in malls, but here in the country my family and I went to the farm where my boys had fun shooting targets with their .22 rifle and playing with family pets.
I, on the other hand, picked ripe tomatoes from our tiny garden to create homemade beauty recipes in the kitchen when we return home.
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE TOMATO SKIN TONER IN YOUR KITCHEN
Step 1. Wash two ripe tomatoes thoroughly
Step 2. Puree tomatoes. You can use mortar and pestle for this, but make sure you have thoroughly washed them to ensure there are no contaminants left. Some of us love to use our mortar and pestle in grinding together our favorite spices, so you can imagine what that can do if the residue get mixed with your tomato skin toner. Personally I use my Tupperware JUIST Hand Juicer in extracting juice from my tomatoes.
Step 3. Add three to four drops of lemon juice to the pureed fruit and mix well.
After you have washed your face with your favorite cleanser, pat face dry and apply your Homemade Tomato Skin Toner on face and neck. If you have sensitive skin, try to avoid areas around the eyes and mouth. Pay close attention on your forehead, nose, the skin area around the bridge of your nose, and cheeks. Massage the formula gently and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
You can browse your emails while waiting, or make your favorite cup coffee, or read a good book to pass the time. I used my waiting time to prepare fresh pineapples to juice later for my family.
Step 4. Lastly, after 15 minutes, you are ready to rinse off your magical formula from nature. Feel your skin tighten a bit? Rinse off with cold water and see the amazing results. Your pores are noticeably finer and your skin feels soft and hydrated.
Do this twice daily, in the morning and in the evening before going to bed, as your daily skin care practice. You can be sure that no harmful chemicals have touched your face because you made the formula yourself!
HOW TO USE PINEAPPLE TO BOOST IMMUNITY, PROMOTE HEALTHY DIGESTION AND HELP TREAT RESPIRATORY AND URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS

Wash ripe pineapple fruit thoroughly under running water. Remove the skin and core using a sharp knife and a dry, clean chopping board. At home, I use a separate chopping board for vegetables and meat to prevent contamination. Using a juice extractor or hand juicer, extract the juice from one large pineapple. You can chill the juice for several minutes or drink it up straight!
Pineapples are said to contain an enzyme called bromelain. This powerful enzyme can break down complex protein from the food we eat and make them more readily absorbed by our body for optimum nutritional benefits. In addition to protein digestion, bromelain also has the following health benefits:
- Address respiratory and urinary tract infections
- Balance stomach acidity
- Promote cardiovascular health
- Reduce discomfort related to osteoarthritis
- Reduce sinus discomfort
Fresh pineapple juice is delicious and refreshing. You can make drinking fresh pineapple juice part of your daily health practices to promote overall health and prevent diseases.
